The Great Pojan War

Tusk was the greatest, bravest, most smart warrior that the Pojan army had ever seen. They didn’t know why, but the Walreeks did. At birth Tusk’s mother dumped him in the River of Ice. Holding him only by the tusk, making him invincible everywhere the water touched. The grave mistake that ultimately ended Tusk’s life soon after victory, was forgetting to dump in his other tusk. Tusk was never an importance to the Walreek community, until the day the war started. The Great Pojan War.

It all started with one grave mistake from Tusk. He decided he could beat and destroy the Pojan army. He took the great Walreek army went to their walls and gave them a chance to surrender. They declined. Both sides thought they were better, when only one would come out on top. And after ten years all they had accomplished was death, even with the great commander Waljax. He had fought the Pojan King, Poecter (Po-ect-er) before and it didn’t go so well. Some might say Poecter cleaned the iceberg with him.

After a deadly attempt of assassinating Tusk, with a ice arrow. Instead of killing Tusk, the assassin, accidentally murdered Tusk’s brother. Tusk went on a rampage. He went and killed King Poector. But tragically, shortly after he was murdered from an arrow to the tusk dipped in only the deadliest rabbit poison. The Walreeks quickly retreated but left behind something. A giant walrus, filled with only the deadliest Walruses. Right when the brought in the peace offering, the destruction of the amazing Pojan city had already begun.

Poector- King Hector
Walreeks- Greeks
Pojans- Trojans
Waljax- Ajax
Tusk- Achilles

One weakness

Many people think that Achilles was a great warrior even with the weakness that was more vulnerable than anybody thought at the time. Throughout the Trojan war, Achilles was the biggest pawn in the war. He probably effected the momentum of the war more than anybody else. He slashed, swung, and killed his way through the most powerful men that Troy had to offer. He truly was a great warrior, with one little weakness that was a bigger concern than he thought it was.

In history there have been a couple of people known, to virtually have no weakness. From cold blooded warriors, to peaceful men without need to fight. But time to time, the without weakness, peaceful men have to turn into warriors with no fear. This happened to a character in a TV series that I frequently watch. The main character Rick had to turn into a warrior to protect his family from the thousands of zombies.  Both were truly warriors and prooved everyone fighting against them wrong.

It's Too Good To Put It Down

Authors Note- I wrote my text analysis easy on Rick Riordan and his series because I feel that he is exceptional good skills at hooking readers and keeping them hooked.

As an author, writing something that appeals to readers is hard. Sometimes a author might just want to write what he wants. But it might not appeal to readers as much as it does to him. There are many ways to appeal to a some ones reading wants, and once you master those things you can be a very good author. Rick Riordan basically does this perfectly. In the series The Lost Hero, he attracts readers when he changes the point of view to create non-stop action, he puts in rivalry at the right times, and he has also kept characters from a different series.

Always in a book comes a time when the reader loses interesting in what's happening or the scene is just flat out stale, lacking in action or romance. Often this changes the readers perspective on the quality of the book. While you're reading Rick Riordan's great literature, you may notice that his books don't ever lack in action. But has non-stop action, which is what most readers truly desire, even if Rick Riordan is their usually author of choice. Rick Riordans target audience is from 9-12. Usually those kids within that age group have a shorter attention span than most so Rick has to keep the action going, which he does perfectly.

When there's rivalry in a book it really get's the reader into what's going on, and they think a little more on the characters different attitudes. Throughout the book the characters either think about it, or talk about it to other people. Annabeth was talking to Piper and she said, "It has to be difficult for both Percy and Jason. They are both used to being in charge." Percy and Jason are always competing like on pg. 247. They were arguing over what to do and where to go.

Usually when an author creates a new series, the author doesn't use the same characters. They want to create new, breath taking characters. Who really make their way to the readers heart. This doesn't always work though. You can't guarantee 100% that a reader will love the new characters you put in. Rick Riordan is a genius author for doing what he did to hook almost 100% of the readers. He added new characters but also kept the most important ones from a different series. Now those people who don't enjoy new characters or really liked the old ones. Now in Rick Riordans series, The Lost Hero's. All the fans of The Lightning Thief, will like this series. All because of just keeping a couple characters from his other series.

People thought that Rick Riordan couldn't top his series The Lighting Thief,  but he did. Rick Riordan can easily appeal to readers because he has mastered this skill as an author. He uses different ways every time. In the series The Lost Hero, he has used very interesting ways. He used rivalry, change of point of view, and very interestingly he kept characters from his other series. This all of course worked and hooked the reader right away, especially if they were a fan of Percy Jackson.

The Trojan Horse

When the Trojan Horse was given to the Trojan's they first thought it was a trap. The Greeks had skilfully laid out a plan. Using someone to give the Trojan's false info, and then using the signal fire. I don't think this would be able to happen in today's time. Back then giving offerings wasn't so out of place or weird. Now it virtually never happens. Now a day if somebody gave our government a peace offering or anything like that, it would go through many security checks including, infa-red scanning, x-ray, the wood would be sampled and tested, and mostly it would be checked on the inside.

In today's time war is a lot different back then. Not just how it was played out, but why they were fighting in the first place. Instead of trying to take over each others cities, now there are terrorist attacks and/or bombings. After trying to invade a city back then it seems a lot more common to leave a peace offering. Now if you tried to give a piece offering to let's say, the United States. It wouldn't go over very well because of the pride of our contry.

When To Stories Cross

Many people know about Ric Riordans very successful series; The Lighting Thief. How Percy Jackson heroically saved Mt Olympus. Mt Olympus isn't just a legend among the demigods of Camp Half-Blood. It is the home to their very powerful Gods. What some people don't know is that there is another camp of Roman demigods that aren't known to the Greeks. Yet the Romans do not know of the Greeks themselves. Shortly after the end of The Lighting Thief series and the beginning of the Last Hero series, these stories begin to intertwine to create a very interesting story.

The Last Hero starts off with a confused and memory wiped main character. Throughout this series the character, Jason, begins to regain his memory and realizes that he was a roman and no he's a Greek. When he and his friends travel to camp half blood it creates very curious thoughts for the ready. For example when they arrive at camp, the readers beloved Percy Jackson is missing. This is a great way that Rick Riordan creates a little confusing with the reader thinking, "Oh where is he!" This is a great quality and a great way to get the reader hooked. A typical fan of Rick Riordon would be anxious to read on a find out where Percy really is.

After these hero's go on a quest they come back and start working on a great battle ship for their next quest, but what they have just realized is that this quest requires the best Greeks, and the best Romans to work together. This is about the time when in the second book the point of view is switched over to Percy's. It was a really good idea to put in some new characters just to spice things up a bit with drama and some little crushes that are tried to be forgotten. While Percy is going through his battles in his own quest. He starts to get his memory back. During this stage in the book Rick Riordan, being the great author he is, still found a way to hook the reader in the book. Often while reading this the reader askes themselves, "Do I remember this?" This is a great quality to have a in a book, keeping the reader hooked during even the most anti-climax parts.

Throughout the book the flashbacks, or the newly remembered memories are often referred to as like a deja vu. If you've ever had a deja vu happen to you that you can remember, it's funny. This wasn't case for Percy and Jason. Another way these memories were referred to were feeling of having something on the tip of your tongue, but just can't remember it. For many people this is an uncomfortable feeling or it's very irritable. For Percy and Jason this was going on for months.

When these two parties of people unite, the ready gets the feeling of excitement  There are so many more people to think about and so many more things happening. Finally these two stories have come together and are packed full of exciting things happening. This does really create an interesting story when the characters of a different series all come together within this series. As if The Lightning Thief wasn't a good enough story yet, and now here comes this new series which combines these two sets of characters and makes this story even more addicting.

After You

In this story the mom has many stereo types about this little black boy. Out of all the stereo types that she had in her mind about him there isn't one that isn't said today. In our society there are many stereotypes about African Americans, including ones about them having extra muscles in their legs or that all of them are poor. Like having an extra muscle in their body, most of the stereo types are extremely ridiculous. But I don't think that in this time if we had them proved wrong, we wouldn't necessarily get mad at the person for not being how we judged them to be.

In the story the two little boys keep saying after you, while holding the door open. Back then there might have been people who were serious about that or at-least had great manners. The manners that people have now a days is just absurd. And it's not just a couple people, it's a lot of them. Over the generations, the manners of children and of adults has done nothing but decreased.

Don't Take Just One View

Authors Note: I wrote my text analysis essay on how Anthony Horowitz changes the point of view in-between characters, because I think that more books should be like this. There are many books that can be improved and extended by just doing this.

Confusion happens all the time in a book. You don't know what to think about a character because someone doesn't always have the right thought about someone. Like saying they're stuck up but really just shy. In most books it's just one person's like, one person thoughts and ideas. However, in the series The Gatekeepers, by Anthony Horowitz, every couple chapters or so the point of view changes. In this book there are five  main characters that all share the same importance. It helps showing the thoughts of different characters, but also what they think about each other. The story can now be viewed by many different views. It improves the quality of the literature.

Anthony Horowitz writes great books; they really show the personality of a character. She also shows how overtime in the book they change. But not just in the eyes of the character, in the eyes of others too. This helps show what the main characters are thinking about each other. Without the changing of the point of view readers, would think that maybe a character playing the bad guys or he really has changed. In the book when Scott is with the Old Ones, it goes to his point of view and it shows he’s teaming with the winning team. This helps the ready really find out how the character is really thinking about a situation

While that is happening it switches point of views a lot and shows how every character see’s what’s going on. Some hope he’ll choose them over the old ones; some think he’s waiting for the right chance to attack. This really helps the book progress along because instead of having one person’s thoughts and one person’s actions being told. Reading books like this really keeps the reader interested in the book. Sometimes you may pick a favorite character and anxiously read hoping next they will stumble into the chapter that shows his or her point of view. Horowitz has written many books with this un-unique quality. Each book better in many ways by this one thing, the changing in point of view.

When everybody, Matt, Pedro, Scar, Scott, and Jamie, get separated. It shows the point of view of all five of them. Telling the reader where they are and how they are getting along. By doing this it really shows the instinct and the personality of the character, showing how they react when pressed with an urgent situation. Some acted with braveness and others acted like a coward. This also shows how they act.

There was a scene in the book where somebody was going to betray them and everybody thought it was a different person. It went through every character's mind and showed how they investigated. It really showed how other people thought and what they thought about each other. In a book it’s really interesting to see who characters trust and who they don’t.
.
There aren’t many books like that, but the ones that are keep the reader intrigued and more interested. Anthony Horowitz is a great book writer. She perfectly describes and shows a character's attitude toward things. Anthony also gets the reader to realize and understand the motives of the characters very well. This really puts the book together not only does it help the reader realize what other characters think but it really pieces together a book. Everybody’s thoughts is way better than just one, everything comes together and in the end just makes more sense. Having the point of view change throughout a book drastically increases its literature and meaning of the story.

Reading Response Three

There are many big differences in-between the two waiters. There is a young waiter who is very impatient and is very rude. He is very unwise and doesn't care about business. Towards the end of the night when someone comes in and he has to stay instead of go home. The young waiter gets very grumpy and has no concern for the old, suicidal, man. Yet the older more wise waiter was very patient and understanding. He tried to stick up for the old man and came up with some good reasons too. I picture these two waiters like two friends, one old and one young. The older one is very wise and patient yet the younger one is the opposite. The cafe symbolizes that one place you go for piece and quiet yet there's someone there taking that away from you.

It's Not Just One Action Story

Authors Note: I wrote my text analysis essay on how Anthony Horowitz changes the point of view in-between characters, because I think that more books should be like this. There are many books that can be improved and extended by just doing this.

Don't Push It

Gentlemen: I received your letter to-day by post, in regard to the ransom you ask for the return of my son. I think you are a little high in your demands,

I think this part was important because it showed that the father didn’t like the child either. This really brought together the story. This really shows that compared to all the other kids they’d kidnapped this kid was so annoying that they’d rather pay to get rid of him than keep him. I don’t see how it’s possible to be so annoying that even your own father doesn’t want you.

There's Always Difference

Authors Note: I wrote this compare and contrast essay on Scott and Jamie Tyler because they are characters in my favorite book series and I think there is more to them that meets the eye.

Difference, everybody is different. It may be the slightest of physical difference or the personality. Often identical twins are close to impossible to tell apart. These two kids are characters in the book Oblivion. You can tell them apart from how they act. More often than not one of the twin takes over the older sibling role. Scott and Jamie are twins in a messed up life with fighting to save the world at the age of fifteen. Fighting along with Pedro, Matt, and Scarlett. Just like Pedro, Matt and Scarlett Scott and Jamie have powers too, they can read and control minds. Even though they are twins you can tell the difference in them. Despite their looks you would expect and think that Scott is the older one. He acts more mature, older, confident, and serious. Even though they look the same, they don’t always act the same.

Scott is 15 just like his brother. Scott has always been the one to act first, take responsibility, and all around just be the bigger person over Jamie. Scott doesn’t control Jamie, he protects him. He’s like the older brother to Jamie and Jamie knows it. In the second book of the Gatekeepers Series, two men came to take them away because they knew about their power. It was Scott that went out to investigate, and it was Scott who stayed behind so his brother could get away. Scott asks a lot more mature than his age. Most kids would fold under pressure, but not Scott.

Scott could be looked at the protector. But with a protector there has to be the protected. This is Jamie, he isn’t like a little kid but he still isn’t as grown up as Scott. When he is without Scott he seems lost with himself, he doesn’t know what to do and he doesn’t know where to go. Throughout the series it points out that in others view it seems like Jamie is the more grown up. Even though he is small he just seems like he would assume the role. Scott is more quiet but
he is still more mature.

Even if two people seem very alike in person, don’t expect them to really be alike of what kind of person they are. The best example i’ve ever seen is Scott and Jamie. They both had gone through the same thing until Scott made Jamie leave him behind so Jamie could get away. Scott knew he would be tortured and he accepted that, because he is so much more in control of who he is and what to do to protect Jamie. Looks may mean something, but attitude and personality change everything.

A Little Thing, Can Make Big Change

Authors Note: I am doing my figurative piece on the song Don’t Worry Child” because I particularly enjoy this song and decided since I like it so much why not analyze it and maybe find out it’s true meaning.

The reason, not to life but to the inside reasons, pains, and happiness that song writers interpret into the songs they write. They make you feel different moods throughout the song. Sometimes I feel moody when I’m listening to a song that I actually can understand the lyrics to. I think the song ‘Don’t Worry Child,” by Swedish House Mafia, was written with excellent figurative language. Some songs can give people hope or make them happy. This isn’t because of the beat of the song or anything like that. It’s the figurative language, the symbolism, and the imagery. That was what causes hope, sadness, and many other feelings in a song.

Songs of happiness are the best songs for those people who are just having a bad day. In the beginning of the song “Don’t Worry Child” the lyrics talk about how he lived in a happy home. This creates an image of just parents playing with their child. Shortly after it says “I was a king I had a gold throne” which is a metaphor. Obviously as a kid he wasn’t a king and he probably didn’t have a gold throne, but the song artist is talking about his child like he was a king so he would have had a good childhood.

Many people in the world are people that say that God has turned his back on them. This is a sign of loss of hope. In this song one of the main sentences that really stands out is “My father said, don’t you worry, don’t you worry child. See heavens got a plan for you.” which really could give someone hope. It symbolizes that there is always hope. Whatever happens, whatever goes wrong for you, you just need to hold on. Life is a bumpy ride, not just a walk on the beach.

Throughout the piece a specific mood is brought up with one very powerful line, “Don’t you worry. Don’t you worry child. See Heavens got a plan for you.” This gives the song listener (or reader) a feeling or mood of hope. In the big picture of life it’s saying that even things aren’t really going your way, you shouldn’t worry or put your head down. In the end if you stay strong and don’t let anything stand in your way, everything will work out for you in the end. Everything that is supposed to happen for you will happen. This chorus that many people listen to, mostly don’t realize how powerful it really is. In just two sentences this song gives you a great amount of hope and a reason to keep going forward and to let nothing stop you from reaching your goal.

Some people listen to songs because they like the chorus, some people listen to a song to help them get through something or to get hope. Those second and third reasons are where the figurative language come in. If a song wanted to give someone hope, but without figurative language it would say something like, “Don’t lose hope” but with figurative language, like in this song it could say something like, “See Heavens got a plan for you.” The one with the figurative language is more inspirational and means a little bit more. Just like that figurative language can give someone hope, or in other cases an uncountable amount of emotions like sadness, happiness or excitement.

The Gates That Release Hell

Authors Note: I’m writing my character analysis piece on Matt from the Raven’s Gate series because his progress in changing is very interesting throughout this series.

Change, everyone goes through it, even adults, or even kids with supernatural powers like Matt. Matt is a part of something bigger than anything else in the world, but yet only few have  knowledge about it. His one of the five trying to keep the Old Ones from coming back into our world. Throughout his journey he never wants any part of what’s going on. He just wants to try to live a normal life as a normal kid, but with powers and a responsibility like his he can’t and he soon changes his attitude and realizes what his to be done.

There are many different types of people on this planet and some of them would jump at the chance to be a hero and help save lives, but then also theres the few people that don’t want any part of it. That’s the kind of person that Matt is, he doesn’t want his power, he doesn’t want to be able to break things with his mind of anything like that. He just wants to be normal and he hasn’t realized what is fully at stake with the opening of the gates.

Reading this book you may have a difficult time trying to find out when Matt changes his attitude because it happens so sudden, but on Pg.273 the narrator points out that, “A short time ago, in England, he hadn’t even wanted to go to Peru. But since then, everything has changed.” This really shows that he’s starting to grow up and realize that he can’t choose whether or not he goes with o this and helps. He really starts to take passion in what’s going on since more than a couple people have died trying to save him or help him. He ends up hating who did this and wants to kill him.

Later in the series when Matt is 15, he has already gone through so much horror that anybody would wish to wake up to it all being a dream. Matt has already assumed the role of the leader and his want to kill and his hatred for the old ones drive him. In a little more than a year Matt has gone through not wanting to take any part of it and wanting to just live a normal life. He doesn't just realize that he doesn't have a choice, his attitude for all this changes and he wants to save the world, he wants to defeat the old ones, and he wants to be the leader. Some things change you drasticly like with trauma or a little change like losing someone in your life. I don't think there is anyone who has changed more than Matt in this book. Matt is turning into that person that encourages everyone on, he leads and he leads well.

For a 14 year old boy Matt is pretty grown up, any 14 year old would have to be grown up if he is fighting to save the planet. But not many people would be excited to do this. For a while Matt and Richard, his friend, didn’t even want to go to Peru to help keep the second gate from opening and even refused a bit. But now as the narrator stated Matt has changed and knows that what he is doing has to be done. That he has no choice to accept it and do it. Matt really grows up in this series and changes for the better

Difference Doesn't Matter

Authors Note: I am comparing Matthew F. And Pedro, because they are very different in small ways but also are the same in the biggest way of all.

In the book Evil Star Matthew Freeman and Pedro, a poor peruvian boy, have had their lives changed forever whether they like it or not. They are both one of the five, together they are two of the five, fighting to keep the ancient ones from coming into their world. For them to fight together is very hard because of how different they are. There really can’t be many ways they are alike.

Pedro, a very poor beggar who lives in Peru. He has known all his life that he was one of the five . Matt knew he was different but he never knew he was a part of something so big, like saving the world or that he could use his mind as a force instead of nothing. Pedro’s native language is spanish and this makes it hard to him and Matthew to understand each other.

Matthew is very special and has powers that could be described as telekinesis, but is very powerful. In the first book Ravens Gate Matthew runs down a hallway and pushes steal, locked doors out of his way with just his mind. This is one of the big differences in between Matt and Pedro. Matt is an english boy from England and never had any money problems, but did have family problems. Pedro has had both money and family problems. Even with all these small differences they are more alike than they realize.

Pedro and Matt are stuck with each other now they are both one of the five. These five kids are gatekeepers. Their only job is to make sure that the gates do not open. Matt and Pedro are able to communicate in their sleep, but even though Matt hears Pedro talking english. Pedro hears Matt talking in spanish. These are two kids that didn’t meet by happening, they were supposed to meet. They think that they are different when are not.

He Doesn't Realize What He Has

Authors Note: I wrote in Gwenda's perspective because the book doesn't really explain how she feels.

The feeling of holding in your happiness is just torture to the soul and that’s how I feel right now.

“Ms. Davis, are you listening?” Said Jill

“O yes of course! Now what is it we are talking about again?” I quickly replied, hoping for a short response.

“Matthew is going to be taking part in our governments new program to help troubled kids such as Matthew,” as the social worker Jill nodded her head at Matt, “He will have a host chosen for him and for the next couple of months he will be staying with them in a small town hopefully improving Matt’s attitude and actions with work.”

“Psh! Matthew doesn’t have a bad attitude, he’s just plain out stupid!” I said while slipping a giggle or two.

Matthew, with his shoulders slumped complained, “You mean I have to actually work? That’s not fair!”

Ignoring Matt’s comment Jill continued to explain the LEAF project to me but all I could really hear was, “For the next year you won’t have to see this little twurp at all or put up with his un-thankfulness!"

“I don’t know why I care so much about what happens to this boy, I mean I never cared about him when we had to take care of him? I just don’t understand.”Matt’s Aunt could not stop talking about Matt to her boyfriend. She had to take care of him after both his parents died in a car crash. In a car he was supposed to be in. As Matt’s Aunt and her boyfriend discussed this, she couldn’t help but thinking how quickly he would come back and have to go to prison.

“You know? I don’t think that boy will even last ONE month there. He has always been creating trouble for us so there is no doubt he won’t last long with that Ms. What’s her name? Deveril? Such a weird lady she was.” Matt’s Aunt went on and on about what she thought would happen to him while her boyfriend had some ideas of his own which he wanted to share and so he did.

“I don’t know, you might be wrong. So yea his parents died and that has to be very traumatizing. Maybe some hard work would be good for the lad wouldn’t you say? Ms. Deveril lived on a farm so I’m sure the boy is hard at work.”

As soon as he said that he regretted it. His girlfriends face just lit like a tomato and she liked like she was about to blow. “Are you kidding me! That boy has never done anything good! I am so glad he is gone, he never appreciated anything we did! AH!”

She stormed out of the room only to say one more thing. “Oh and by the way you can sleep on the couch tonight you piece of junk!”

In the world many children are very trouble and Matthew is one of those kids. Gwenda Davis is the Aunt in law of Matt. There are two sides to this story, there is Gwenda's side and there is Matt's side. Gwenda doesn't even come close to being a good parent she always ignores him and treats him with disrespect but she thinks that she is taking care of him which is exactly the opposite of what is going on.

A Freeman That Is Not So Free

Authors Note: In this piece I explained Matt's story and why I think what will happen to him. I also hope that if anyone walking down the "Dark side of the path" will read this and understand that things would be able to get better if they just tried and found the right people. Just remember there is always going to be someone out there who has it worse than you.

Matthew Freeman, a young criminal, is all alone. Matthew has no body in his life except for his step aunt and her boyfriend, he has no parents and hates the fact he was supposed to be there when they died. Now forever he is traumatized from losing his parents at such a young age. For this to happen to anyone it would be unbelievably hard to get up in the morning and actually do something. Matthew is a very tough child but ends up going down the wrong path.

Matthew could be a good student and a good athlete but he shoved all of those things out of his head while living in the terrible household that was provided to him by his Aunt. He has started to steal things and definitely is being influenced by his “best friend.” This best friend is much older than him and is influencing him to shoplift and steal many things from stores and this can only lead to trouble. He has been caught many times and has a long list of criminal actions on his record. If I were Matt I would try to find an actual friend.

While Matt is walking down the dark path that will definitely change his life and what will happen to him in the future. Going down this path will only lead to bad things like the reality of Matt being put in jail, but one thing that certainly does not help this is that his Aunt Doesn’t show any care for him and doesn’t tell him what he should and should not do. I think that because of this Matt will stay on the wrong path d eventually in jail. There probably won’t be anyone in the near future to tell him what’s up and to get him to do the right thing, I think that Matt will continue to do these things and will eventually end up in prison, or worse.

There is only one thing that could happen to him from here on out if he keeps walking down the wrong path. He will probably stay on this path because he has no body in his life to actually care about him. Soon he will start stealing more valuable stuff and will get into more trouble. Matthew is just a boy with no body to really care about him, but he could come out of this slump and cross over to the good side. This is very unlikely to happen, but he is still a very strong kid with the will to do almost anything.

Death

Authors Note: I wrote my compare and contrast on this topic because I felt like I really understood this topic.

Death, It happens everywhere at a very high rate. Even though natural death happens often there was a time where death didn’t happen naturally but by somebody else. To the people this affects including relatives of the person that gets killed, this is a great tragedy. In the book Woods Runner young Samuel supplies for his family with meat from hunting but one day he came back to find out his parents and neighbors ad died a very painful and un natural death. And in the movie the patriot, Benjamin Martin ends up watching his two oldest sons die because of war. Death, happens everywhere especially in war. It is not always the same but always heart breaking.

In the book Woods Runner, Samuel is just a young boy but his experiences as a young boy are suddenly ripped from his very hands when he comes home to a burning house and his parents lifeless and scorched bodies. To me I think Samuel is very strong to be able to bury all the bodies at such the young age he is. This tragedy definitely changes him and bring out the grown up in him. He really grows up when this happens and makes a pledge to himself to kill whoever did this. Even though it isn’t technically the right thing to do he could just stop and go into his own world because he has nobody left in his life. How would you feel if your normal life and your parents whom you loved so much were just ripped away from you, and you couldn’t do anything about it.

There is a difference in losing your parents and losing your children. As a parents when you have children they love them more than their lives. I don’t necessarily think that is the way for ever child but it would still be heartbreaking to lose your parents. After Benjamin Martin tried convincing his son to not go to war he still does and later on his son stumbles into his house hoping to be taking care of with a battle wound. The next day Benjamin was housing the wounded soldiers of a war ad the British come and take is son. His second oldest son goes to try and save him and gets killed. Then later on after Benjamin get’s his son back loses him just weeks later in a battle. Because of this he basically goes crazy and goes on a rampage. Death can affect someone physically,  but especially mentally.

Even though the reactions and affects of death can be different they are always tragic. I personally have lost someone in my life and it was horrible. For even the toughest people, losing someone still hurts them even if it doesn’t look like it. There is a difference in-between let’s say losing your son compared to losing your parents. Most parents should be able to say that they love their children more than their lives but most children wouldn’t legitimately be able to say that about their parents. Both are tragic things that happen every day to anyone. Any death is a tragedy and everyone responds in different ways but one thing is for sure. Some deaths are different from others like a old person who regrets nothing and lived their dream throughout their life and has a peaceful death. Or something like a young person dying in a car accident.

Some children think they would be better off on their own without their parents but they don’t know what it would be like to have both of them die and then to be all alone. Would you rather have someone you love die a horrible death in a war or die sleeping with no pain? Even if someone died on their death bed it is still better and more peaceful. But no matter what death happens everywhere and no matter what it will not be good even if it happens every day. (Paulsen) (Emmerich)
